Madame le Strange got her first taste of design at the age of 12, when she decided that she wanted to look like her Silver Screen heroines! At that time, UK shops had very little in the way of vintage, retro clothing, or corsetry...and even had there been, she didn’t have much money anyway!

Undaunted, she taught herself to reproduce the elegant clothes she loved so much, mainly by borrowing books about Silver Screen stars & films from her local library and copying the designs therein. She took babysitting jobs in the evenings - mostly caring for some of her teachers’ children - to finance fabric and haberdashery purchases, and by the age of 14, was exclusively wearing her own reproduction vintage wear!

Over the last 30 years, Madame le Strange has mastered 1940s and 50s clothing, plus Medieval, Elizabethan, Victorian and Edwardian styles, and has worked as an historical costumier and theatrical wardrobe mistress.

Through her historical costuming, Madame le Strange has come to love corsetry and the form it gives to the figure. Consequently, for the past decade, she has concentrated her efforts into bringing fine bespoke corsets to clients from all walks of life.

As one of the few bespoke corsetières in the UK, Madame le Strange loves to discuss clients’ corseting desires with them, after all, it’s essential to get not just the fit right but the design too. Therefore if you want something but you don’t see it - ask!
